Abysmal experience
Rented a Campervan in Ireland for a week with my Fiancée. Our experience was abysmal to say the least.
The depot took ages to get our campervan ready. Right off the bat, there was no gas canister for our heating. The employee told us we can get it at any gas station. This was not true. Spent the entire week Freezing! With no hot water and no heating in the biting cold of an Irish winter. We tried calling the company and were met with hair-pulling customer service with a very long wait time and no direction!
The campervan itself was terrible quality. Cheap components all over the inside and a smell of mold and sewage. The shifting of the transmission was dodgy and felt very unsafe driving it. The dodgy suspension didn’t help either. The sound system was cheap and too shrill to listen to. Not to mention there was a light broken on the back of the van which of course was a danger to us and other road users.
We weren’t able to use the restroom after the second day as the door handle just fell off… the only way to open the door was with a pliers I had to buy. Anyway, while driving on the straight and narrow my Fiancée and I are sitting in silence and then BOOM! the door to the closet decides to lunge itself across the campervan. Scared the lights out of us! It was completely broken off! The only place it would go is along the main bed in the back! So there we were on our pre-marital holiday sleeping with a big wooden door!
So after a week of freezing cold living in the indie campers campervan, we had to wait ages in the cold to talk to one of the representatives. And go about our way to the airport!
Here’s the worst part.. a tiny little bang on the bumper that we apparently are responsible for, resulted in indie campers charging us over $2000! We could have bought our own campervan for that! In what world would that cost $2000??
All in all it absolutely ruined our holiday that we saved up for. It would have been more luxurious if we had rented a nice car and pitched a tent!
The amount we paid was insane compared to the atrocious quality of the van and the appalling customer service. I absolutely insist against renting off of indie campers.
