Strong warning about Indie Campers
Our experience with Indie Campers was unfortunately disastrous. We rented a vehicle in Sydney that had to be exchanged immediately due to a serious technical defect (incorrectly installed battery, toxic gas leakage).
Despite returning the vehicle in perfect condition, we were later charged for damage we clearly did not cause. The company refused to provide any concrete evidence of when or where the damage supposedly occurred. The damage photo doesn’t even show a license plate, making it impossible to confirm that it was the vehicle we had rented.
We were told that the company reserves the right to charge for damages up to 30 days after drop-off – even if the vehicle is moved by staff in that time. If an employee causes a dent while driving the vehicle, Indie Campers will still charge you for it.
We were also denied access to the pricing list used to calculate the repair cost. Over €3,000 was charged for a small dent, with no transparent breakdown.
Based on this experience, we strongly advise against booking with Indie Campers. If you already have, make sure to document everything carefully (photos, handover protocols, communication). For us, it turned into a very expensive and frustrating experience.
